The Russian Convoys

During World War II, the North Atlantic Fleet, also known as The Russian Convoys, took supplies into Russia. Thousands of young men died in the icy seas.

The British Merchant Navy had men as young as 15 on them and, when they were called up for national war service, many Royal Navy men were 18.

Russia was blockaded by German forces and the supplies the ships took to Archangel & Murmansk were essential, both for the war effort and to help Russia, where millions of people starved to death.
